How refreshing to see some familiar faces from CA!  My cousins are spending the week in DC.  I was able to sight-see with them this week.  We are having a blast!

  • Arlington National Cemetary

Only three weeks left till we go home.  Wow, time does fly.  I'll miss it here but am excited to go home too.  Our family made a trip to Virginia yesterday to pay honor and respect to our leaders and military men and women who have died serving our country.

  • Meet My New Hydration Vessel

bottle_gw_special_w220Oh isn't she lovely?  My new hydration vessel!!  Okay, I'm a sucker for beautiful bpa-free water bottles.  My Sigg one was getting old and I couldn't see inside of it to see if it's clean!  It's starting to taste funny too, so here's my new purchase:  the Kor One Hydration Vessel.  With every purchase of a Kor One bottle, you can even help provide safe drinking water to those around the world!  Read more about the Global Water Crisis here.

  • A Visit to Maryland

Yesterday we were invited to the pastor's house for dinner.  He lives in Maryland so we took a nice long metro ride to visit him, his family and some other friends from church.  After the pastor picked us up at the metro, he drove us to see the General Conference Headquarters, which was close to his house.  The security guard gave us a quick tour around.  That was fun.

I love the homes in Maryland!  We don't have homes like these in California.  I love that the homes don't have fences that block people's views.

I was so excited to see other people and socialize with other Christians!  For the last 5 weeks, G hasn't really been held by anyone other than me and hubby.  She cried at first but then adjusted to everyone holding her.  She even made friends with a cute little girl one month younger than her.

  • The Mall at Night

We took an evening stroll to the mall last night to close the Sabbath together.  The weather was perfect.

  • National Cherry Blossom Festival & Thomas Jefferson Memorial

Spring has sprung!  The weather is warming up and summer is just around the corner.  I love this time of year, especially in DC.  We walked down to the Jefferson Memorial where over 3,000 cherry trees are in bloom.  They were donated by Japan in 1912 as a symbol of friendship and goodwill.

  • Dinner with Friends

    IMG_8993

Last night we had a nice dinner with my childhood friend who now works in DC.  Her family lived behind us for years and we have lots of memories growing up.  She invited a homeless friend of hers to dinner too.  It was so nice to meet him and a blessing to hear his story.  He is a Vietnam Vet who is struggling and we were glad to see he enjoyed his meal.

  • National Air and Space Museum

-Our camera is fixed!  Hooray.  Canon did a great job fixing it and shipping it back so quickly.

-G had a really rough three days last week.  I couldn't figure out what was wrong with her.  She didn't nap well, she did not sleep well at night.  She even cried spontaneously if a stranger would look at her.  Then I realized she must have been teething cause lo and behold her fourth tooth popped out!

-Last Sunday we visted the National Air and Space Museum.  DC is getting so crowded lately.  The tourists are coming in for spring break!  We even had to wait to take another metro one time cause everyone was jammed packed like sardines.

    Lots of historic planes here.

The Wright Flyer was the first powered aircraft to fly in 1903.  It was designed and built by the Wright Brothers:

Neil Armstrong was the first man on the moon.  Buzz Aldrin was the second, here's his space suit:

It was really amazing and inspiring to see the milestones of flight.  And to think it all started in 1903 by two guys who didn't even finish highschool!

To my G:  The sky's the limit!  Up up and away little one!  There is no limit to how far you can go or what you can do.  Papa and Mama are here to support you always.

  • Time with God

"The greatest thing we have to offer [those we minister to] is not our education, it is not our good ideas.  It isn't even our gifts and abilities.  It is the fruit of the time we have spent with the Savior, the utterly unique and unparalleled thing that happens to us when we are simply in His presence."  Ben Patterson

For Sabbath worship tonight, I was reminded of my need to spend more time with my Savior.  I love this quote.  How can I witness to my friends and family if I haven't spent time with God?

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This was taken yesterday.  G and I decided to take a walk to the Capitol and visit the Botanic Garden again (orchids!).   Hubby found out and couldn't resist...he stepped out of work for ten minutes to be with us.  Luckily he works only a five-minute walk away.

    IMG_8584

Today we visited the Capitol and got a chance to go inside the Rotunda.

In the center of the inner dome is The Apotheosis of Washington, by Italian-born painter Constantino Brumidi.  It depicts George Washington, surrounded by angels, rising like a god into the heavens.

We walked right past Nancy Pelosi's office.  By the way, this week has been full of news about the health care bill.  And so the line to enter the house gallery to watch congress was extremely long...too long for a baby.  They're keeping it open to the public tomorrow and Sunday, the day they're supposed to vote on it.  It was pretty awesome to walk by the room in which history was being made.

I am very sad.  Our camera is broken (as you can see in the picture above)!  I dropped it inside the Capitol when I handed G to hubby and ran to the restroom.  Bummer.  The good news is it's still under warranty.  Bad news is I won't have a camera for about a week while we're in DC.
